Old news, older adults are more susceptible to the Coronavirus. In fact, eight out of 10 COVID-19-related deaths reported in the United States have been among adults aged 65 years and older. The virus’ high contagion rate among at-risk populations has businesses who cater to older adults concerned that if one patron contracts it, it will quickly spread.

Hearth Management, a senior housing company, is taking a page from mother nature’s rulebook by using all-natural, hypochlorous acid to kill bacteria, stop viruses from spreading and keep their buildings clean. “When you hear the phrase hypochlorous acid, it’s easy to think of something out of a science fiction movie, but really it’s what our white blood cells produce in response to infections” explained Jonathan Barbieri, The Hearth’s Sr. Vice President. “It’s a key part of our immune systems and since everyone’s immune system can use a little boost right now, it made perfect sense for us to start incorporating it into our cleaning standards”.

Each Hearth community is equipped with a generator that uses electricity to change the chemical structure of salt and water to produce a hypochlorous acid-based disinfectant. The cleaner is as effective as bleach but with no harmful chemicals, fumes, or residues.
