The Fat Lady Sings

In an article published in Forbes magazine, three companies are currently leading the way to develop a vaccine that will be effective against all variants of COVID-19. The goal of this research is to possibly prevent a future pandemic from variants of the COVID-19 virus. The current providers of COVID-19 vaccines (Pfizer, Moderna and J&J) are focusing their attention on a booster for current variants.

In March VBI (one of the companies leading the way to a new vaccine) entered a $33 million partnership with the Coalition for Epidemic Preparedness Innovations, also known as CEPI, to develop a pan-coronavirus vaccine that an protect against new COVID-19 variants and other coronaviruses. Clinical trials are expected to start in the second half of 2021.

VBI’s idea for a pan-coronavirus vaccine is deceptively simple: it plans to train the immune system to be able to recognize a specific part of the virus that exists even on coronaviruses that humans haven’t encountered before. Very interesting read, and something we should all be thinking about; it isn’t over until the fat lady sings!

Stay well and stay tuned!
