Who is Driving the Bus?

There are not enough hours in the day or list-servs to sign up for to keep current with new information vital to the management of our postacute care/senior living communities. On February 3, 2023, CMS announced updates to the LTCSP Survey Resources with an effective date of February 17, 2023. There were no memorandums or QSO memos sent to providers regarding these updates. Doing a little digging, Appendix PP has a link to Transmittals Issued for this Appendix” but oddly, there is no Revision # and the implementation date is 10/24/2022….. hmmm

*February 3, 2023 was the same date of CMS Strategic Plan that includes cross-cutting initiatives for Long Term Care:

Bottom line, it is up to you and your fellow providers to determine what if any pertinent changes were made to the guidance. If you search 02-02-23 in Appendix PP there are 68 different F tags with “red” print which reflect change with this designation: (Rev. 211; Issued: 02-03-23; Effective: 10-21-22; Implementation: 10-24-22). Not surprising that providers are struggling to maintain compliance with the regulations.

What happened to the proposed rule in 2019 that “would increase facilities’ ability to devote their resources to improving resident care.  This would be achieved by the elimination or reduction in the hours and resources that clinicians and providers spend on obsolete and redundant requirements that could impede or divert resources away from the provision of high-quality resident care.” Transparency? Doubtful! Buckle up and be prepared!
