You Don’t Use it You Lose It

Angie SzumlinskiStudies

We have all heard the old adage, maybe from your parents or grandparents, You Don’t Use it You Lose it, right? Well in an interesting article published in Medical Xpress, they found that although physical activity does positively impact people with depression, treatment with antidepressants is more effective long-term!

Does that mean we should sit home and take medications instead of going out for a walk, a jog, or going to the gym? Absolutely not! Weight-bearing exercise can have a positive impact on more than just mental health. Remember that heart that keeps you going? How about the stronger bones you get with weight-bearing exercise? And let us not forget those all-important lungs, and our digestive health as well!

So, as you read all of the research and literature we are being bombarded with on a daily basis, remember, we are multi-faceted, human beings. Our physical, emotional, and spiritual needs can’t always be managed with medication alone. Think of the bigger picture, holistically, look at your entire YOU and be sure you are tuned into your body. Get up and take a few laps around your center, walk your dog, kick a soccer ball with your kids, take care of you! Stay well, stay informed, and stay tuned!
