Sleep. There really isn’t anything like it if you are a “long” sleeper. For those of us “short” sleepers, sleep is pretty much over-rated. During the pandemic, sleep took a back seat for most of us due to the additional anxiety of the unknown and lifestyle changes. In a recent Provider article, a geriatrician said it might be time to look at these lifestyle choices and determine if they are sustainable! During COVID, caffeine and alcohol intake increased, “schedules” as we knew them were non-existent and life basically became surreal.

Enter summer/fall 2021, we realize that the light at the end of the tunnel might actually be an oncoming train. Just like that, bam, the Delta variant rears its ugly head, vaccines aren’t quite as effective as originally thought, boosters are being researched and approved by the FDA, and vaccine mandates are becoming daily news. So, who has time to sleep? So much to do and so little time!

As we continue our journey, I wanted to take a few minutes to encourage you to take a deep breath, look at any changes you have made in your lifestyle, be honest with yourself, and determine what you can do to ensure you are getting enough rest. Remember, if you aren’t on your game, you can’t expect that any of your team will be either! Leaders need to lead and if you are exhausted, leading will be that much tougher! Go have some warm milk and cookies (no chocolate) and get some rest! Stay well, stay informed, and stay tuned!
